This service is for young people with special educational needs and disabilities, including autism, who are not ready to access their community
Employment and Community Skills (ECS) support needs that could be due to:
- heightened anxiety and unable to leave the home
- health or trauma reasons
- lack of community access and concerns about the wider community
- parental reluctance
- lack of opportunity
Support is given to customers in develop life skills, build resilience, support identity, emotional wellbeing, self-esteem and inclusion. This support would be provided in the person's own home, working towards accessing the community.
Help can be offered with
- community access and the steps needed to achieve this
- accessing health and wellbeing services
- road awareness, safety and travel training
- assessing sleep routine and how this can be managed more productivity
- developing and increase of communication skills
- identifying your skills and strengths, then help you to develop any new skills needed
- ways to improve personal hygiene
- money management
- reviewing progress with you
This support is delivered on a one-to-one basis and can be over a longer time frame than other ECS services. This time frame will be discussed, agreed and will be reviewed regularly to make sure progress is being made.
When early intervention receives a referral, customers will be allocated to a worker who will meet with them to register them to our service. They will then work with them to identify what their end goal is and support them to break this down into more manageable targets.
There will be responsibilities expected of both customer and worker, these will be explained and reviewed regularly.
Who is eligible
People who live in Wiltshire aged between 14 and 25 years willing to look at ways to increase independence and motivated to do their best.
Who can refer
- ECS (inter team referrals)
- SEND Worker - Contacting the Wiltshire SEND team
- Referrals will only be considered after an initial discussion with the Team Manager
The team are always striving to support people on the pathway to adulthood and will discuss a referral to Community Connecting as your final step with this early intervention service.
