It is import to see a dentist regularly to ensure healthy teeth and gums.
It can be particularly important for young people with additional needs to:
- see the same dentist or group of dentists
- at routine times
- in routine places
- for them to understand what is likely to happen while they are at an appointment
Dentists are doctors who look after your teeth, mouth and gums. You are most likely to see them for general check-ups, but they will also help if you need braces, surgery or referrals on to specialist support.
If you move to far from your dentist to continue to visit them, you should register with a new dentist as soon as possible. New dentists can talk to your old dentist where necessary to build a picture of your needs and previous treatment.
NHS dentists are not limited to postcode and you can travel to your long term familiar dentist even if you move.
