Like all councils in England, Wiltshire Council has had sharp increases in SEND spending over recent years. Two-thirds of councils, including Wiltshire, have found they are spending more on SEND than the government sends them. Young people in Wiltshire are our number one priority, but changes are needed to have the money to invest and improve.

Safety Valve is a Department for Education supported programme that works with councils who overspend on SEND funding.

Wilshire Council has decided to join the programme because it offers the opportunity for much needed investment and we believe it will help us make the system better for pupils with SEN while also addressing the overspend. The aim for this term is the development of a transformation plan which we will co-design with schools, parents and carers, health and care professionals, and with children themselves.

To help begin this process, we would like to invite you to complete this short survey (opens new window) which will begin to shape our approach to our sustainability plan. The survey may take up to 30 minutes to complete and will make sure your voice is heard at the start of this process. This is the first of three surveys we will be running at key points during the process, as well as some workshops.

For more information, please go to https://rightchoice.wiltshire.gov.uk/SEND-Sustainability (opens new window) which we will be keeping up to date throughout this process. It also has a helpful FAQs section but if your question is not answered there, then please email SEND_Sustainability@wiltshire.gov.uk (opens new window) and we'll get back to you.
